the trio in Ulrichsberg, Austria / photo by Günther GrögerWill writes mesmerizing hymns, abstract pulsating textures, and plain old catchy tunes for his trio. Trumpeter Ron Horton and bassist Dave Phillips have been playing with him since 1998. Together they have developed a truly unified group sound, gliding through crisp arrangements and free improvisations.
Their third CD, Palace Ghosts and Drunken Hymns, is a collaboration with the Portuguese pianist Bernardo Sassetti. Recorded in Portugal, it is out now on the Clean Feed label. The trio's first two CDs, Reed Song and Singing to a Bee, were also released on Clean Feed and met with rave reviews.
